Classroom personality

Energetic, empathetic, and a little chaotic in the best way. I’m big on routines but love to laugh with my students. I want them to feel safe to be themselves.

Go-to teaching hack

My “Brain & Book” routine. It helps settle the class while promoting retrieval and metacognition. Bonus: it gives me a moment to breathe.

Favourite lesson or activity that always works

“Maths mysteries” or proof-style games where students have to prove or disprove something. They spark real debate and get everyone thinking and talking.

Most memorable student question

“Miss, were you always good at maths?”

I loved that one because it opened a great conversation about growth mindset and how confidence can be developed.

Coffee or tea to survive a school day

Always coffee.

Something listeners might not know about you

I experience major imposter syndrome daily but I’m learning to see it as proof that I care deeply about what I do.

How do you switch off after a long day

A good walk with Howie or curling up with a book. Bonus points if there’s Taylor Swift playing in the background.

If you weren’t a teacher what would you be

A school counsellor or podcast producer. I love holding space for people to reflect and tell their stories.

What do you hope listeners take away from each episode

That honesty is powerful. Teaching is messy and meaningful and Fraction of a Teacher is here to remind you that you’re not alone in that.

Favourite episode so far

There have been so many. The episode with Jeremy was such a lovely reflection on how far we had come. But the new season’s Teacher Standard 1 episode felt personal, honest, and full of moments trainee teachers will connect with. I got pretty emotional thinking about the teacher who changed my life.

Dream guest

Someone like Jaz Ampaw-Farr. She’s honest, joyful, and talks about teaching as activism. I’d love to hear her reflect with us.

Favourite book

Take a Look at Me Now by Miranda Dickinson. A story about starting over and finding yourself again. It’s warm, hopeful, and exactly the kind of comfort read I love.

Favourite film or TV show

TV: Line of Duty, Trigger Point, and any good crime documentary. I love a mystery that keeps me guessing. I just started Stranger Things, and the jury is still out.

Film: You’ve Got Mail – an oldie but a classic.

Go-to comfort food

Thai food every time. Satay chicken and Thai green curry. Fresh, a little spicy, and somehow always exactly what I need after a long day. Pure joy.

Dream holiday destination

No budget? Bora Bora.

Favourite hobby outside teaching

Bullet journaling, paddleboarding, and writing my fiction novel.

Surprising fact your students wouldn’t guess

I’ve been writing a fiction novel for nearly a decade. Francis and Soph still don’t know how I find the time.
